After a weeks holiday in Italy, I arrived back in time for the smilt conference. smilt stands for south Manchester Information Learning Technology and is a group made up of staff members with an interest in eLearning from various FE colleges around the south Manchester area. This was their first event and it went really well. For allot of people, including me, the highlight of the day were the hands on workshops. They were on topics such as accessibility, interactive whiteboards, e-portfolios, Learning Resource Centres and one I hosted “blogs, wikis and stuff”. They were followed by swap shop sessions where staff with similar subject areas shared ideas, resources and opinions on elearning. The main thing that came out of the group that I was in, was the lack of resources available to some of the colleges. One woman mentioned she was struggling to get a replacement overhead projector never mind an interactive whiteboard. Having said that, there is obviously bucket loads of enthusiasm out there.
